MESSAGE FOR ‘EYES ON CHINA - QINGHAI CHARITY PROJECT’
FROM SENATOR THE HON KATE LUNDY
MINISTER FOR SPORT
MINISTER FOR MULTICULTURAL AFFAIRS
MINISTER ASSISTING FOR INDUSTRY & INNOVATION

The Chinese Australian community is one of the oldest, most diverse and well established in Australia. Since the arrival of the first Chinese settlers 150 years ago, many organisations have been established in Australia to serve the Chinese community. These organisations, whether new or old, have a long and proud tradition of helping others.

Generosity and the desire to help others in need is a hallmark of the Chinese community in Australia. The Eyes on China Qinghai Charity Project is a perfect example of such philanthropy as it works to make avoidable blindness for people in rural China a thing of the past.

I commend the successful actions of the Australian Council for the Promotion of the Peaceful Reunification of China on its work to help those in China, who are at risk of losing their eyesight,Franck Muller replica watches to regain their sight.

In Australia, many of us take healthy eyesight for granted, and as we age, ophthalmological problems are generally diagnosed and treated with little difficulty.

In parts of rural China, the loss of sight due to conditions such as cataracts, has a profound effect on the individual and their community, limiting independence and self-reliance.

The council plays such an important role both in Australia and China as it connects the Chinese Australian community with its cultural roots and through its charitable efforts provides life-changing assistance to those in need overseas.

I congratulate the Council on its efforts with this very important work.

MESSAGE FOR ‘EYES ON CHINA QINGHAI CHARITY PROJECT’
FROM THE HON. PHILIP RUDDOCK MP
SHADOW CABINET SECRETARY

I wish to offer my warmest congratulations to the Australian Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China on the occasion of the 2012 launch of their ‘Eyes on China – Qinghai’ project.

This is a remarkable cause; bringing the gift of sight to over 500 cataract sufferers in the Qinghai provinces.

I note that this is the tenth year this project has been run by the ACPPRC, bringing sight to some of the poorest people of China. Its ongoing success is a testament to the remarkable effort of many Sino-Australian officials, generous donors, workers and professional medical team members. It reflects the ongoing close and growing links between the people of China and Australia.

I look forward to an enjoyable evening, delightful company, and the raising of money to support this most worthwhile cause.

MESSAGE FROM MR WILLIAM CHIU
CHAIRMAN OF ACPPRC

“Eyes on China” was first initiated by the Australian Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China in 2002, with the launching of the first medical mission “Eyes on Tibet” in 2003. For ten consecutive years, “Eyes on China” has provided a platform to sow the seeds of love, the unity of humankind, the respect amongst different nations and peoples, and the friendship between Australia and China. Furthermore, the “Eyes on China” has helped to further strengthen the mutual understanding and co-operation between the governments and the general public of Australia and China. More than four thousand patients have benefited from this project. ACPPRC does not plan to slow it down. This year there will be “Eyes on China-Qinghai” with even more zest and resolve.

The success of “Eyes on China” relies heavily on the steadfast and continuous support of the governments of Australia and China, respective government departments, social organisations, the general public and all of you here tonight. Your compassion and benevolence will improve the lives of victims in the disaster areas and patients who have suffered a lot. Your contribution is very much appreciated, valued and utmost important.

The multicultural Australians have always been warm-hearted, benevolent and charitable. As one old Chinese scholar said, “Extend the respect of the aged in one’s family to that of other families; extend the love of the young ones in one’s family to that of other families”, “Give mutual help and protection to those in trouble or suffering illness”. Thus, it is our duty, all sons and daughters of this multicultural society, to help less fortunate people and reduce their sufferings. Dear friends, may I call upon for your love and generosity, as there is no better gift than to restore the power of sight, and I would like to encourage you to participate in this very meaningful project. As an old saying goes, many hands make light glow; a number of small streams converge into a vast ocean. I am sure everyone’s generosity will contribute success towards the whole charity project and make a difference to the lives of the needed.

May “Eyes on China-Qinghai” be another great success!
