Celebrating Chinese New Year with Prime Minister

Chinese New Year Lantern Festival is one of the highlight events of Sydney’s Chinese New Year celebrations. More than half a million Sydneysiders are expected to take part in the biggest Chinese lantern festival ever to be staged in Sydney, at Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour from the 12th-17th of February 2016.

On the 12th of February 2016, The Hon. Malcolm Turnbull, Prime Minister of Australia; the Hon. Bill Shorten, Federal Opposition Leader; H.E. Li Huaxin, Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Sydney; Mr. Xiangmo Huang, President of ACPPRC; and other Chinese community leaders attended the Opening Ceremony of Chinese New Year Lantern Festival. They cut the red ribbon and turned on the lights of the Handmade lanterns - symbols for luck and fortune in the Chinese culture.

Before the official Opening Ceremony, Mr Xiangmo Huang, accompanied the Prime Minister visiting Chinatown and wished all Chinese community members a happy Chinese New Year and Kung Hei Fat Choi.
