2016 Chinese New Year Eve Celebration Banquet and Illumination in Red of Sydney Opera House

On the 7th of February 2016, Australian Council for the Promotion of the Peaceful Reunification of China (ACPPRC) hosted a special Chinese New Year Eve Celebration banquet and illumination in red of Sydney Opera House.

The Hon Mike Baird, the Premier of NSW; H.E. Li Huaxin, Consul-General (Ambassadorial rank) of PRC in Sydney; The Hon. Philip Ruddock MP, Chairman of the Australia-China Parliamentary Friendship Group, representing Prime Minister the Hon. Malcolm Turnbull MP; The Hon. Bill Shorten MP, Leader of the Federal Opposition; The Hon. Gladys Berejiklian MP, NSW Treasurer; The Hon. Luke Foley MLC, NSW Opposition Leader; The Hon. John Ajaka MLC, NSW Minister for Ageing, Minister for Disability Services, and Minister for Multiculturalism; and other distinguished guests, together with ACPPRC President Xiangmo Huang at the Overseas Passenger Terminal for the ceremony - pushed the Launch bar to turn the Opera House’s sails red to mark the start of the Year of the Monkey.

The Sdyney Opera House was covered with "China Red". The firework display was magnificent. The occasion was marked by a warm, auspicious and jubilant atmosphere all round.
